We landed yesterday at 3 pm Kiev time, 7 hours ahead of our east coast. It was a pretty easy flight but the team was fairly tired with the drastic time changes. The Ukrainian Alpha Country Director, Andrey and a friend, Sergey, picked us up from the airport and then took us out for a hearty Ukrainian lunch! YAY Borscht! That evening, we went with Sergey for a night on the town! We took the subway to downtown Kiev, and we walked along the main river that runs through the heart of the city. And man, we walked! We were surprised how awake we felt after a full day of travel! Downtown Kiev is absolutely breath taking! Kiev is one of the oldest cities in eastern Europe. One of the beautiful basilicas we walked by dates back to 1000 A.D! After a walk through the park and a nice cup of coffee we came back to our hotel and called it a night.
This morning we woke early and had breakfast in our hotel. What an incredible assortment of fresh vegetables, sausages, cheeses, Ukrainian pancakes, and or course beets! Brandon has pictures of all the meals for your viewing pleasure. We are spending the day at Andrey's church office and doing lots of preparations for the conference tomorrow. Our interpreters and dear friends of Karen's, Natasha and Lera arrived just in time for lunch. We are having a brilliant time catching up with them! Lots of laughs! This evening we will be helping to lead an Alpha seminar for Andrey's local Alpha team on "pastoral care."
And tomorrow the GAT conference begins!!!
Praises:
-Natasha and Lera have been able to adjust their teaching schedules to stay with us our whole trip!
Pray requests:
- Some of us are rather short on sleep, please pray that we will find time to rest!
God Bless!
